BRAKING

The MGU-K converts rotating forward momentum (kinetic energy) into electricity and stores it in the lithium-ion battery.

ACCELERATION

The electricity gained during braking is sent to the Motor Generator that transfers instant electric torque to the rear wheels. The INFINITI Q50 with Performance Hybrid (V6 Direct Response Hybrid 360hp) accelerates from 0 to 60mph in 4.9 seconds, very similar to the new INFINITI Q50 with V6 twin-turbo 400hp (4.8 seconds), but with an initial stronger burst due to the instant electric torque delivery.

ENERGY

ENERGY GENERATION: Under braking, the Motor Generator operates as a generator: it recovers kinetic energy and converts it into electricity and stores it in a lithium-ion battery.

ENERGY STORAGE: The electricity produced by the Motor Generator is stored in a lithium-ion battery.

ENERGY RELEASE: Under acceleration, the Motor Generator operates as a motor powered by the lithium-ion battery. This produces 214 lb-ft (290 Nm) of instant electric torque.

BRAKING

The electric MGU-K converts rotating forward momentum (kinetic energy) into electricity and stores it in the lithium-ion battery.

ACCELERATION

The electricity gained during braking is sent to the Motor Generator Unit-Kinetic (MGU-K) that transfers instant electric torque to the rear wheels. The MGU-H converts energy from the exhaust gasses and produces additional electricity that can be stored in the battery or be sent directly to the MGU-K, on the driver’s demand.

The MGU-H also controls the speed of the turbocharger to help reduce turbo lag.

ENERGY

MGU-KINETIC: CHARGE: Under braking, the MGU-K operates as a generator: it recovers kinetic energy and converts it into electricity that is stored in a lithium-ion battery.

MGU-HEAT: CHARGE: The MGU-H recovers energy from the exhaust gasses and converts it into electricity. This can be either directed to the Motor Generator Unit-Kinetic (MGU-K) or to the lithium-ion battery.

MGU-KINETIC: DISCHARGE: Under acceleration, the MGU-K operates as a motor powered by the lithium-ion battery and is also directly powered by the MGU-H (on driver’s demand). This produces 150 lb-ft (203 Nm) of instant electric torque.
